I have a 79 F-100. I just got done putting the chevy alternator on it. I found a wiring diagram for the alternator on here somewhere and did what it said to. Now evertime I go to turn the headlights on it kills the truck instantly. Is this something I did wrong with the wiring or a new problem? How do I go about fixing it?
Can you link to the diagram you found? If the headlights short, they are supposed to trip a circuit breaker in the switch so it sounds like an interesting problem.
The young fella has a good point. CHEV parts on a FORD, have you no shame man.
You must have a short somewhere in the system or a wire spliced that shouldn't be. If it worked before the swap , go back and look at everything you touched or even moved in the wiring system. Elec. problems can go easy or hard, best of luck.
