I have a chance to get a Eclipse cd and amp at a good price. What I would like to know how good is Eclipse, is it top, bottom or someplace in the middle?

 

While i was planning out a new system for my 1993 extended cab F150, my first choice in decks were Blaupunkt, Rocford Fosgate, or JVC. I chose those decks because of there's detachable faces & security features... and Rocford Fosgate for sound. But, i came across a dealer who convinced me to go along with Eclipse. They sounded EXCELLENT with MB Quarts and PPI amps! The one he showed me was the flagship model which ran around $550.

I don't remember the model#... i think it was 5170 something... but this deck rocked! It was a stand alone deck with no amp on board. Just 4 preouts with 12V outputs (most have 5-8V) It had a CD player and an auxilery input. I think it was worth the money too because of its security features.

Eclipse has a feature with most of their high end CD models where if your deck is stolen, the deck will be useless to the theif because of several security features and your personal code you have set it to. The dealer said that most thiefs just pass the opertunity with Eclipse Decks beacuse they do not have street value if it is rendered useless out of the vehicle. Another good thing is... if it is stolen with in the first two years, Elipse will give you another identical deck FREE.... i think...
The only bad thing is... you can't remove it, you can't hide it, and its in plain view... it stays stationary. but i think the security is good enoegh.

If you are gonna get an Eclipse at a good price... GO FOR IT. just have a good amp(s) to drive em or else you'll be missing out on the clarity this deck brings.
