Does anyone know a good place to get a 302 shortblock?
I have been planning on rebuilding an engine for my '89 F250. But I have come to the conclussion that it would be easier to just put in a new shortblock and I'm looking for suggestions.
Thanks.
Sick 302: Sometimes this site would help if we knew what city & state we were in.It would make it easier to give good info.
If reasonably close to columbus,ohio
Fowler Engines inc. 614-258--2924 Really know's Ford Alittle price'y BUT never junk And It's CLEAN>>VERY IMPORTANT. I'v heard JASPER SUPPOSED TO OK. I would never use a rebuilt from one of these trader magizines Sometimes a first class mach shop is 3rd choice..GOOD LUCK
Rodger: I wasn't trying to be smart when I mentioned where you were.I think however we all could Get better answer's If we would somtimes Give our location or in some case A phone # would. I relize that a pearson need's to be private and cautious. I have left city &state but have to use sme judgement on phone #.I guess HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO ME
Advance Auto, Autozone, and all those guys have rebuilt/remanufactured shortblocks that are good quality. Many of them buy from a company called Recon and they seem to do a good job. I bought a long block from them 4 years ago and haven't had any problems.
I put a reman long block in my 84 f 150 this past summer. I checked around in the phone book and called each engine shop in Austin TX and asked them every question bout engine building. I went to one shop and took a tour of it. The guy was good in tellin me their machining processes and how they assemble the engines. I figured this's good enough for a poor boy wantin a new engine. I put bout 7000 miles on it since and havent had any trouble except for exhaust leaks on my manifolds. It does have some valve clatter, i reckon thats from the big cam they installed. Oh, and you can custom build just bout any engine combo thinkable and get money back on the cores.
I did talk to a local place and they can get me a remanned long block for just under $1000. I think that is the way I'm going to go. That is, if my tax refund is big enough.
