Radiator Overflow nipples: i found the purpose for the second one!

My 87 Mustang has this. The EGR passages are cast into the intake manifold, and lead up to the EGR plate, where the valve just opens up the passage from the source into a hole in the plate, which just dumps into the intake manifold behind the throttle. The plate contains a coolant passage that the coolant flows through, and it's tapped off of one of the heater hoses.
There was a book written many years ago titled "Manifold Destiny" and it described how to cook foods on your engine while you're driving. One of the best places they said for cooking was on top of the intake manifold of many Ford v8s, because it was big and flat, and gets very hot.

My Mistake..
I have seen many engines with coolant flowing in the intake manifolds. When 93F150/302 wrote "throttle body", I was only envisioning one like on my 3.0l Vulcan V6 which is divorced from the engine proper & mounted way out at the elevated 'end' of the intake tract. I hadn't considered one bolted to a flat intake as if in place of a carburettor on an older style Vee engine, such as his 302.
Duhh.. my copious allergies must be dulling my brain more than I realized.
