Another Hub Conversion Question

I am in the process of converting the automatic hubs on my 92 EB to Warn manual hubs. The existing automatics were five bolt hubs. I removed the cap, lock ring, hub body, splined washer and the c retaining clip.

I have installed the new hub body and the lock ring. There is some float evident however, I cannot attach the supplied retaining ring. The hub body extends to the very end of the axel shaft and the groove for the retaining clip is far from being exposed.

If I leave the c clip installed there is not enough room to install the hub body and the lock ring.

When I read the instructions they say that with Ford Twin Traction Beam that the retaining clip is manditory. I do not see how this is possible? I have it together without a clip, I have driven it around the block and tested the hubs and FWD and all appears to be working. I am uneasy about not having a clip installed. Has any one come up against this?

Thanks,

Philmo.

Two options, the hub isn't pushed in entirely, or the axleshaft is pushed in some. Reach round behind the spindle and use your hand or a screwdriver or something to push the axleshaft towards the wheel. It should move enough to put the snap ring on.

I just was not being forceable enough. That did the trick! Thanks.
