Performance questions

I've done extensive research on here and on some other forum websites about the new f 150's and the triton motors. I bought a 97 F150 with the 5.4l triton, automatic transmission about three months ago. i was raised on old steel and at first i was at a loss on anything to do with these trucks. I had to actually take it into a shop when i was having engine trouble (turned out to be a bad coil) and it was the first time i have ever taken anything into a shop before.

That being said.

I have learned one thing about these motors. when it comes to stock. Seventy extra horse power is all you'll ever see with bolt on's.

I put a edge evolution with attitude on it and i was amazed at how much it woke the truck up. I have a cold air kit and troyer performance dual electric fans on the way. i've read on here a few little tricks for uping the performance a little more like recalibrating the TPS.

I had a couple questions. One. Is there any chip that i can stack with my edge to kind of "fill in the holes" where edge lacks. Most noticably off the line. And if there is is it even worth my time. Ive seen modules from venom and jet that claim to be able to stack with other chips but ive had a hard time finding any info about them.

Also is there any other serious bolt on upgrade short of a supercharger that im really missing? Truck has true duals with dual cats and is straight piped after the cats. from what i've read anything after the intake chip and fans on a stock internal motor seems like a waste of money. guess i really just want to know if there is anything im missing? any other little trick that i havent figured out or any product you guys have installed on your trucks that you noticed a difference on.

My truck,

1997 F150 Ext. Cab long box 4wd 127000 miles
5.4l triton, automatic trans (not sure if 4r70 or 4r100 havent gotten around to checking yet)
Edge evolution with attitude
SD cold air intake
troyer performance dual electric fans
poweraid throttle body spacer

Any help would be greatly appriciated or if you have any questions about how my mods have made a difference feel free to ask. you can read all you want about a mod but unless you talk to someone who actually has it. you can never know the real gain you'll get out of it.

Thanks again!

Can't stack chips on the gas engines, long tube headers are about the only other big mod I can think of that yo can do.

Long tubes might help....I would personally go with a set of 4:10 gears.

doesnt 4:10 gears kill your top-end power and gas mileage on the freeway? i have a 1997 with a 5.4 and 3.54 gears with 265 tires and i have NO bottom-end power

4:10's will not kill your top end power... This isn't a 3 speed of yesteryear. With the overdrive ratio of 0.7:1 if I were to top out my truck at 5000 RPM I would be doing 180 MPH.. I would never get there. The truck is way undergeared, overweight, underpowered and not areodynamic enough to get even close.

With 4:10's and a 265/70/17 (31.7" tall) tire doing 60 MPH it would only turn 1825 RPM - only 165 revs higher then a 3.73 gear and 245 more then a 3:55 gear.

You may lose a little MPG on extended highway trips, but you should gain in the city and have better performance all around and less stress on your transmission.

4:10's will help the low end for sure and change the shift points on your tranny a little....I doubt it will affect the mileage.

Edit:

Looks like someone beat me to it.
