r & r A4LD tranny
I think I need to replace my transmission. I have a '91 3.0L 2wd aero.
I can't afford a rebuild so I'm looking at the salvage yard option. Having not dropped the tranny before, I am looking for any advice that may help me accomplish this job.
Short of a step by step procedure, is it a matter of draining fluid, loosening a few bolts, aligning components? Do I use the old torque converter? Is there an online primer anywhere?
My current tranny just won't engage any gears anymore. I've thought of replacing the modulator first to see if that would 'fix' my problem, but have not gotten around to it. Is that worth trying first? Is it difficult to do?
This board doesn't seem to get many eyeballs on it, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks

i would suggest getting a Chilton's manual for Aerostar at your local auto parts store. good description of tranny removal/install.
the ebay service cd's are good also, copies of the original Ford service info.
major failure, probably pump. i'd replace the converter also if you can get a good one.
