bad hubs?

i've got a 1993 f250 4x4 with 460 and auto locking hubs. after i use 4 wheel drive i put it back in 2wd and back up 20 feet. the last couple times after i've used 4wd i'd drive down the road and the truck sounded like i was hitting large potholes. i'm wondering if the hubs aren't releasing and i should replace them with manuals.

i know everyone will say i should get manual hubs anyway, but will that fix my problem?

I like manuals-but if your hubs are staying locked in and you hear or feel what you say like hitting potholes-I think you may have more problems than just hubs-i would get it checked out P.D.Q-even with the hubs engaged there should be minimum noise
