Legality?

Is it legal to buy a carbed 351, put a Holley fuel injection kit on it, and put it in a truck that now has an efi 300 in it? Or is that considered to be the same as putting a carbed motor in and wont pass emissions?

What state are you in?

It's all federal laws, but each state interprets/enforces differently. In california you would be illegal. In oh say, Oklahoma I seriously doubt anybody would even care.

You'd have better chances with fuel injection. But why take a chance with that much money at stake. Talk to the local smog people if you have any. These are the people who are going to have the final say-so anyway. If you can't find these people you might try the tag office or ask the local cops about smog inspections. Short of someone from Conn. posting it's the only way to find out for sure.

Do whatever you want. Currently there are no emissions and no inspection unless you have a motorcycle or trailer or OTR tractor. When they do start with emissions again, if its anything like they used to, it doesn't matter so long as you've got a CAT and can pass your emissions. Out of all the vehicles i've driven through emissions, never once have they opened the hood.
