Maybe Big Job

I went out there and looked at the truck. The front end looks like a Big Job but, I'm not really sure. It has a very nice grill guard. It is the Coleman conversion. First one I've seen. It has SEVEN levers coming up from the floor. It has about a 40,000 lb. winch in the bed. It's pretty much all together. It has a monstrous power tower that is driven by the PTO and, in turn, drives the winch. It has a port in the roof so that you can see way up high when you're setting a pole. Tires have new tread but, a few surface cracks.

The last 2 are of my Ford.

I'm confused. Do you own two trucks that you want to sell because you're moving?

Question on the Big Job distributor

I thought that I had replied to this thread. The guy with the Coleman Ford is moving and selling his truck. I put pictures of my truck on the same page,,, out of laziness.
I'm not selling my F-900 Marmon Herrington.
BUT, I have a new problem. There are 2 steel tubes going from the distributor to the carburetor. One longer,, one shorter. Somewhere in the process, the steel tubes got bent badly.
I don't know which tube goes to which port. Does the longer tube go to the upper port on the distributor or,,, does it go to the lower port?
I have both the manual and, the parts book. I don't see it in the book.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dan

That is so sad, but the price seems right.
Oh, wait. That's just for the window regulator. Hmmm.

That Y-block looks pretty complete,,, at this moment. I wish I had it a year ago.
I just fired mine up yesterday. I only have short pipes. Boy, is it noisy.
I had to buy a crank and cam and lifters and pistons,,,, etc.
I posted a while back of a Big Job with a steel flatbed and 5th wheel hitch. The deal sounded good.
Reportedly, a rebuilt engine. I recently talked to the guy. He hasn't sold the truck yet. I told him that I would post his contact info here.

Not a Big Job owner just yet. This weekend I may be going to take a look at a 51 F7 that is for sale. Assuming it's not a lost cause and getting it transported the 175 miles home doesn't cost as much as the truck I could be an owner soon.

Have a couple of questions for the Big Job owners.

What size socket should I bring with me for the crankshaft bolt on the 337? It's been sitting a long time, I want to check if the engine is seized.

Seller says its got a 5-Speed, not sure which though, if the shift pattern isn't indicated on the dash what's the next best way to determine if it's a direct or O/D? Is there a tag or casting number I can check if I crawl under it? The Clark transmission would be a 205 if direct and 205-VO if O/D correct?

Any other advice for what other things I should look for is appreciated also.

Thank You.

F7's standard issue 5sp overdrive F8s standard issue 5sp direct however they could be ordered either way.
As far as sockets just bring your toolbox. Myself I'd bring a chain and tow it 5 or 10 feet in 3rd or 4th speed.
far as I know transmission model had a painted stencil left side probably long gone now cause the case is the
same just the gearing is different....

If it has the 332 engine then it likely has the Clark 265-V or 264-VO. Case markings for the 265-V are 5HDB, case markings for the 264-VO are 5HOB. Check the warranty plate - the transmission code for the 265-V is K, code for the 264-VO is J. That's assuming everything is original.

332 Lincoln engines weren’t introduced until 1956. I’m thinking the 337 is the big flathead

337 is the big flathead, and it's a monster compared to the standard 239's we're used to. Crank bolt head uses a 7/8 socket on the one I have.

The 337 was used through 1951. New engines were introduced in '52 based on the big Lincoln Y block, with a 279 OHV engine for the F7, and a 317 OHV for the F8.

Oh well, maybe next time.Sold before I could even make arrangements get up to look at it. Emailed the seller about it on Thursday night about looking at it this weekend. Didn't get a response now the listing is gone, maybe sold before I'd emailed?

Saved a screen shot and some pictures from the listing at least.
