91 F150 w/351

I need some info on how to repair or replace the steering shaft from the column to the steering box. the nylon bushing were it slides together is falling out so I have alot of play in the steering wheel. Parts stores dont carry them and finding a good used one is impossible. I see they make aftermarket ones for the older models

Can I just drill a hole about half way through and set screw it?

any help would be appreciated

That really shouldn't be a hard part to find. Ask for a wrag/rag joint for you're truck. It's not any big deal to change out either.
Remove the bolt that runs through the joint, and the steering shaft at the gear box. You're steering shaft coming through the firewall should slide towards the firewall. Then swap out you're old for new.

Ive been looking for one but no luck. theres alot of the wrong ones or junk ones out there. Everywhere Ive gone doesnt know really what they have. they bring a box up and let me look through it. Not many good used part places in this area.

As for new if I found it im sure its over $200. Not really wanting to spend that kind of money on a truck that gets me to work and back..

 

That rag/wrag joint cost's nothing like that.
May have to go online to get one. I live in Southern Missouri and these parts are getting more difficult to get here too.

maybe we arent talking about the same thing. the rag joint is fine. its were the two shafts slide together.

 

if your not driving it too far everyday, take a c-clamp and crush the outer shaft to the innner shaft. do not leave the c-clamp on it. crusj it the entire lenght of the sliding area. this will tighten up the steering wheel. I am only suggesting this as a temporary solution until you find a new sector shaft ( I think thats what the whole assembly is called)
