I just fired up my rebuilt 360 in my 69 F100, I'm not sure if I stabbed the distr. right. Should I have my engine at TDC w/ the rotor @ #1 or @ should I have it @ 6 BTDC w/ the rotor @ #1. I did it w/ it @ 6 BTDC, and it won't hardly run. Help
I always put mine at TDC and then line it up at #1. this usually works for me. when you first fire it up it WILL be stiff. It may take a few minutes for it to loosen up enough for it to idle. once you get it to idle put the timing light on it and set it from there.
P.S. try setting it to 10-12 deg. you just may be surprised.
I always set to TDC and adjust the timing from there.
Disconnect the vacuum advance, and run the engine on fast idle, or at 2000rpm for 30 minutes to let it break in enough for it to idle and run properly.. And always remember, a fast break in equals a fast engine!
Thanks guys, I re stabbed the dist., and it runs, and idles fine, except for a little hesitation when I take off from a stop.Still trying to figure that out, but she purrs like a kitten. Thanks again,
Grump
Your engine will probably run a little goofy until it loosens up but like stated above set the timing to 12 degrees BTDC. My motor had no power on the bottom or top end at 6*. It would also backfire through the carb a little when cold on takeoff.
