Is the 4991028L-2415 taken from the door tag itself or a tag located someplace else. Ford VINs on these would begin with an F10 or F25....slightly different if its a 4WD. The VIN is stamped on the top of the RF frame rail between the front crossmember and the radiator core support. Its a light stamp, but its there...it is typically about parallel with where the alternator is on the engine. Use a wirebrush to get the area cleaned up...
The engine also may have a tag too held on with one bolt..it has 2 lines of info. Its about 2 inches long or so and typically located around the coil braket mount on the 352's although I found that mine had been used as a wire retainer for the egine wiring running down the LF of the engine attached at same place as the dipstick tube is.
Im not sure about the 6 cylinder tags though.
Thank's camperspecial, the numbers i posted came from the driver side door frame(hinge side).I'am going to trailer the truck home today as it is 4 hours from where i live. When i get it home i will get the number you require and post them.I went to the local ford dealer and they could'nt help. This is the first ford i have and it is clean with a little rust on the drivers side fender by the bumper only.I also have 2 merc's (65&66).
Merc 390. That is a Ford of Canada VIN. breaks down something like this"
4- Ford V8(1 is Merc V8 5 is Merc 6 cyl, 6 is Ford 6 cyl)
99-Styleside body
10 -F100
28-128" wheelbase.. we are going wrong for a '66 already should be 129"
L- left hand drive. The British and Australian trucks were also built in Canada.. right hand drive
241504-sequential built number. Ford of Canada Archives can tell you the year from this number alone
A-Gross vehicle weight code
SS engine code-- I would guess 352 2 barrel since this was the only V8 available. Assuming it's a twin I beam truck.
AUTO- indicates a rare automatic transmission Probably a cruise-O-matic
The DSO indicates a Canadian deliver site (40) not sure which one, and the 631st truck of that year with special orders.
Look at the door tags on your 65 and 66. I believe the Canadian plant in Oakville went to the US style VIN numbers in 66, and this is not a 66 tag, and should , as Camperspecial says, start with an F10-something..
Also check on your 65 how close that sequential number is to the '65, because I believe this to be a '65 or (maybe even a '64 due to the wheelbase) door tag.
either the truck is a '65 or earlier, or the tag was changed out.
One last thing. The frame stamp on a Canadian Ford is sometimes on the opposite side of the frame, top of the driver's side behind the front suspension.
Best o'luck... post some pics!!

Ringo, thanks a million...I was of the assumption the Cdn built trucks were of same VIN setup as US...I also wasnt aware the overseas trucks were built there as well...btw...there is no 40 for a DSO in US books, so I would bet it was built there.
Ringo thank's for the info and yes the number that was too be on the frame rail was on the drivers side and is---C5TA-JU241 with a small "L" beside the 1.Just got home from the car wash and the motor is all gold(heads and block)and the intake aluminium and not aftermarket. Were these auto's any good?Do you drive in "D" or the green dot?Was told the green dot.
Thank's again for all the info.
Merc.
Did you compare the door tags on your other 2 trucks to this one? does the 66 have a completely different style and type of tag?
The reason for this is, I am trying to establish what year your truck is for engine options.
First, does the truck have twin I beams?
Second. the gold motor is definitely a '65 thing, but for car motors. A '65 Thunderbird, for instance, has (I think) an all-gold 390. a Truck, in 1965, has a black block and gold valve covers. A '66 should have a blue block/valve covers.
See where I am going with this? Either your truck is a '65 or someone swapped out a car motor into it.
Third, C5TA-JU241 is a '65 build date, June 24th I think. Still 1965 model year.
so, if it is a twin I truck, 65 or 66, the ONLY advertized V8 engine option from the factory was a 2bbl 352.
Fordboy Pete will tell you that for a VERY few top execs at Ford, they could pretty much mix and match whatever was coming down the line at the assembly plant, so If Oakville was building Meteors with 390's in them, a person with the right contacts could have special ordered a 390 into that truck. I wish I knew for sure the 40 DSO code, because if it is the Canadian home plant (factory), this may well be the case.
Best o' luck with the truck. Let's see some pics!
