Steering Box Replacement

I own a 1993 F-150 that's just a step away from the bone yard. My steering box recently gave up the ghost...leaks like a sieve. I can pick one up from the junkyard, I mean "Salvage Center", for $75.00. Can a mechanical moron, like myself, do the replacement without a trip to the emergency room or a padded cell in a straight jacket?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty easy. You'll need a big socket for the pitman arm. I forget the size, but it took me a couple trips to the parts store to get it right. You'll also need to rent a pitman arm puller. It's a pretty easy job to do, but a helper would be a good idea unless you're pretty strong. Holding the 100 lb steering box up with one arm while you thread the bolts with the other arm will leave you sore the next day. Ask me how I know.

When you get the new box Put a 2x4 acrossed rad support and cowl (pad both ends) and hang new& old pump from it (rope ratchect strap) . Will take some stress off your arms while running bolts. If you were 200 miles closer I'd help you . Plus I got the boxes on shelf. Good luck take time .
