Need some help with front end

I have a 01 Escape with just over 100k miles. I drove it and noticed a slight shimmy, so I jacked up the front end, tugged on the wheels and noticed a good amount of side to side play. Top to bottom play is real tight. Can someone tell me what parts need replacing for the side to side play?

Thanks.

It may be the front bearings. We had a 04 and it did that and the dealer said it was the front bearings. Is there alot of noise coming from the front end? When ours went bad it would make a rumbling noise like the tires were bad.

I don't think its my bearings, there is no noise, but I will check that.

Tie rods may be the problem, I read once before that if you can wiggle the wheel left and right it is one thing, wiggle top and bottom it is another. I will check those. Thanks
