i dunno nothin' about body work or paint.
the truck was just prepped and painted back in '05, and i just finished raising the body up a few inches, revealing a silver dollar size rust spot that the rear bumper was hiding, in the very "corner".

i swear this is the only flaw i can find on this freagin' truck, so to me its worth trying to figure out how to make the cancer stop spreading.

is their a quick fix i can do?
friends have mentioned "rustolium"
any sanding involved?-----im cluless...

 

Has the rust gone through yet?
If it hasn't, sand it down to bare metal, add any body filler as needed,primer it and repaint.
If it did rust through- cut out the rusted area until only good metal is there. Weld in patch piece. Grind smooth, add body filler, primer, and paint.

If there is surface rust on the underside, you can try using POR 15 to treat it. Make sure to follow the directions. Good luck

the rust has not gone through yet, although close. it has started to crack and split, but i will try sanding and filling it first and kinda trial and error.

I assume this is the 86 in your sig. Was the truck rusty before it was painted? You might want to look for evidence of bubbling elsewhere, you could have rust under the paint. My dads 78 had this happening in quite a few spots, especially above the doors and along the lower edges of the body panels.

 

DO NOT sand/ fill and experiment unless you chemically kill the rust. Get the POR 15 zink oxide or at least the ospho sold at ace. grind any scale rust off. treat it with the chemical then clean and prep. If not all you will do is cover a problem and end up with a nightmare.

I'd get it raise up and look at all the inner panels and spray down any are that even look like it might rust then cover it...rustoleum sucks hind end IMO...unless prep work is so perfect it's god-like....then it only sucks when compared to POR, eastwood etc.

Forget Rustoleum.....use a good rust convertor / encapsilator like Por-15 or RustBullet, prime and then top coat.
