Engine locating tips?
After alot of worry and mind-changing, I finally have a direction for "motorvation" on my 66. I'm going to run the factory 240/3 speed for a while after the truck is "finished" and start putting together parts for the 460 swap. I've always wanted a big engine. The question I have is where to look for a donor. What years/models would have a better chance of locating the 460? I'll probably buy a donor vehicle just so I can get the engine, tranny and miscellaneous parts needed for the swap. Is there an obvious choice like a later truck that I could "just" do a body swap? That would shorten the project list considerably. Thanks.

Magee, your best choice for a body swap is '73 - '79.
If you choose to upgrade your truck with a 460, the only parts you will need from a 460 equipped truck are the 3-piece motor mounts and the C-6 or clutch bellhousing for a 460. (Check out the 385 forum here at FTE; they can tell you about using 351M or 400 C-6 or clutched bellhousings. But the 460 truck motor mounts are unique to the 460 in the truck, and only for the years '73 - 79.)
The motor mounts are the key to getting everything else right. They bolt up to the '65 - '79 frame exactly the way Ford intended them to do, and they locate everything form the fan blade to the transmisson mount in all the right places.
You can even upgrade to the late '80s and early '90s serpentine belt system as a bolt-up solution as well.
For power steering, power disc brakes etc, any '73 - '79 truck will do.
Of course, keep in mind the differences between the 5 lug wheel on the F-100 and the 8 lug wheels on the F-250 - at least as far as the brakes are concerned.

That's why I had the rolling eyed face in the post. One can dream, right? I'm still on the look-out for an engine donor, though. I know that it's faily common in the mid-seventies Lincolns, but are there other likely candidates? Sometimes, it's cheaper to buy the whole car for $500, swipe the engine and tranny and then sell of the useable stuff and scrap the rest.

Besides the front motor mount perches (D3TZ-6028-A - Right & D3TZ-6029-A - Left); 2 rubber mounts (D3TZ-6038-A); and 2 support brackets (D3TZ-6030-A - Right & D3TZ-6031-A - Left); you will also need the rear engine mount bracket (D8TZ-6A023-A); and rear engine mount (D3TZ-6068-A). The bracket (some call it a crossmember) bolts to the frame.
All these parts can be found in a 1973/79 F100/350 460 or are available aftermarket as a kit.
