Jasper Differentials?
I'm one of the many folks that have an '02 Explorer that has the famous whining differential in it... I'm considering fixing it, it's now paid for, and the noise is starting to drive me nuts. Yes, I've tried the updated lube-- all it did was make it shift in pitch, to a new annoying frequency that I haven't tuned out (and others notice it now, too), it was worth a shot, anyway. Anyhow, considering how I've read that some folks have had the parts / labor performed per the Ford TSB, and the noise seems to invariably come back shortly thereafter (with few success stories gleaned from the 'net) -- I was considering looking at putting a reman in. Jasper seems to have a good name, the warranty looked impressive (3 years or 75,000 miles -- if it lasts that long without making noise, it probably never will). Anyone gone this route? I have a mechanic friend that can put it in for free (truth be told, if I had a garage I could do it myself if I had to) labor, and probably get a discount on the unit to boot... I would think it would be a better option than attempting a rebuild that may fail, with no warranty to fall back on.
