Coming back I would take 101 not I-5. I worked on part of the I-5 where it comes through Kern County as a Paramedic, tons of traffic accidents. Its a long straight boring freeway that people seem to kill themselves on. Really boring drive on the I-5.

Michael,
Unless your hauling boulders in your trailer you won't have any problems on the Northbound 101, Southbound is even easier.
Yes, the San Luis Obispo hill Northbound is a bit of a grade but it isn't too long and then it's a joy ride from there.
I tow my Weekend Warrior toyhauler to Pismo pretty regularily and have an '01 Ex. V-10 with 3.73's, 3" lift, 33/12.5/17's and a Banks kit. Pulls like a mule, never a problem.
Make sure you air down the truck tires at Pismo before towing in the sand, best to stay in 4 low if your in the soft sand towing.
Have a great time- Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply! It looks like the trip should be no problem from what everyone says. The toybox will have no toys (or boulders)in it!
The wife wants a no dirt bike holiday for a change. I will get a chance to see Pismo though and will probably make a trip back up with the bikes.
