rear diff
hey guys im new here i just bought a 1997 f250 HD 4x4
the speedo is acting wierd and i have done pretty much narrowed it down to the rear wheel speed sensor. when i pulled the sensor out to take a look it had a few metal shavings on it and the fluid is all black and gunky. what im i getting myself into. i figure replace the sensor to fix the speedo problem but what is this black thick nasty fluid saying about my diff.

Hi. You may not have to replace the sensor. The metal shavings could have been causing eronious readings. Clean out the diff. Check for any obvious damage. If there was no noises before maybe the shavings were from original break in. Make sure you use the reccommended fluid and any recommended additives. I use motorcraft oil and additive for limited slip. Some times there's a tag on the fill hole telling what oil to use.
