Tailgate Window not working

Hi All, And thanks for responding. I have a 1990 Full Size Bronco. The tailgate window suddenly stopped working. I have replace the switch in the dash and checked the fuses but still nothing. The window is all the way up and I can't figure out what to do next to solve this problem.

Also not sure how to open the taigate?

Any ideas on what to do to solve this dilema?

Tailgate Window not working

This happened on my 87 Bronco, as well. Found the wires were chaffed where they pass from the rear 1/4 panel to the tailgate (fairly common from what I understand). The sheathing covering the wires didn't appear terribly worn but after splitting the sheating, discovered the wires inside were worn thru. Cut, soldered, and taped the wires and, problem solved. Other than tapping on the tailgate near the lower drivers side, I would think that the only way to lower the window is to rem9ove the inside access panel from the inside of the vehicle and than try to manually lower the window. Did this on a 79 Bronco; I assume they are similar. I'd start there first. Have fun.

Sharlo, there is also a switch (to keep window from moving when tailgate is down) that gets out of adjustment. It is in center of tailgate, apparent when you remove inside panel. Try adjusting this and see if it helps. My 78 had same problem and this solved it. Don

Thanks for the help, how do I access this switch if the tailgate window is up, from the inside access panel?

Thanks

Also, Can you tell me if I get the access panel off from the inside How do I get the window down? Do I need to run 12v to the motor? and do it this way?

Thanks again

okay I too have had the tailgate problems. Access the tailgate by removing the inner panel to get to the wiring and the switch. you can jump the motor and get the glass to go down but this will not solve the problem. The tailgate wires that enter the tailgate are notorious for breaking - cut open the wiring inspect for breaks. IF you find a break solder it. Also the tailgate wiring goes through the left taillight housing to under the vehicle. There is a plug under the vehicle (A BETTER IDEA??? THANKS FORD) that picks up all sorts or crud and corrosion. If you live in a "salt on the road" area this too may be corroded. Good luck.

Try the simple things. go to the back of the truck and push the tailgate. One of the locks might not be closed all the way or could have come open just a little while driving it.

Just a thought!
