Angry Starting problem

Hey everybody.

I have a 93 F150 4x4 w/ 302.

About 10 months ago, I was in the parking lot at home depot and my truck wouldn't start. There was plenty of battery juice, but turning the key would just make the "CLICK" of the starting engaging, but it wouldn't turn at all. Eventually I got it started by using a jumper cable to bridge between the battery and the starter. When I got it home, I replaced the battery terminals and the 8ga wire from the battery to the starter. It worked fine for a couple months.

About two months later, it started doing the same thing. I replaced the solenoid on the passenger front fender, it didn't help. After trying everything I could think of, I eventually replaced the starter motor itself, and it worked find for months until now.

Now it's doing the same thing again. I turn the key, and just get a loud CLICK. This time, if I keep turning it (like 30-40 times) it will eventually catch and the truck starts and runs just fine, but if I shut it off, even with the engine fully warmed, it will CLICK and not start again. Anybody have any idea what I can check to fix this?

Thanks in advance!
Jerry

Sounds like battery cables to me. Replace ALL of them, and 8 ga. is way too light. I would use 4 at least, and 2 if I could find it.

Oops, sorry, I think it was 4 gauge, whatever the standard stuff they sell at autozone with the terminals on em is.

Thanks... I'll try that first... I hope it works.

I just finished going through the exact same problem....single click.
First i changed the relay on the fender...notta.
Then i changed the whole harness from the battery to the starter...notta.
Finally changed the starter and it's starting just fine. The guy at NAPA where i bought the starter told me to put a trickle charger on the battery after i installed the starter to top up the charge before trying the starter otherwise you won't get the full strength and life from the starter. The altenator won't top up that battery. That's the advice i got anyway so i used it.
