I have a 2001 explorer that upon acceleration the engine seems to vibrate and shakes the car...kind of like a rumbling sound. I thought it might have just been my tires were out of alignment and I bought new tires with an alignment and balance..that was not the problem..the sound goes away as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator...any ideas?? oh, I also had a major tune up done thinking that was the problem, wrong again...THANKS!!
I'm wondering if you're feeling transmission shuttering.. or maybe even a U-joint that's bound up.
If you have a V8 All wheel drive model, I'd be suspecting the front driveshaft.. it's got an odd cv-joint kind of thing at the transfer case that tends to bind up during acceleration. Try to see if the vibration is consistent with vehicle speed, or engine RPM.
