Problem with differential

I recetly blew a hole in my rear diff cover from the pin coming apart. I towed it to the garage and he told me all I needed was the new pin, a cover and some oil. When I got it it had a chattering noise. Well after a new driveshaft, u joints, spyder gears, and two bearings I can still hear some shattering noise. I only hear it when i apply very little gas. When I accerlate, decelerate, or coast I cannot hear it. He told me the rack and pinion gears where fine but they had some minor scratches/scuffs from the pin coming out of the spyder gears. I was wondering if this is possible. He said scratches would most like wear off and the noise would stop. I do not know much about differential a gears so any ideas on this matter would help. I was also wondering if this noise could be coming from not adding friction modifier but I thought that had to do with turning. He put the right synethic oil in the pumpking but I am not sure about the friction modifier. Is it possible to add to much friction modifier? My truck is a 1998 F-150 with a five speed and the LS differential I think. Not sure what my gears are but I doubt that matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jeff

Yes, a bottle of friction modifier is needed. Pick up a bottle from your local dealer. Comes in a 8 oz size. If I remember correctly, it takes only 4 ounces. Good luck!
