I got a 96 F150 XLT 302 auto. It has been having some trouble idleing at times but not all the time. (wont idle or will very slow even killing engine) (then other times it is fine)Today it done it bad enough to turn on the Check engine light. So I used my Superchips Microtuner to read the code and this is what came up...
DCT#1 - P1507 - In book it says; Idle air Ctrl underspeed error.
Can anyone tell me what causes this is there a part to change or something.
All help appreciated.
The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is the valve on the side of your throttle body that faces the distributor (right side looking at it). It controls the amount of air let into the engine when theres no throttle, therefore controlling the idle. If it's throwing a code, im guessing its either clogged or bad.
You can go ahead and take it off, use some carb cleaner and clean it out and try that, and if that doesnt work you might need a new one.
I tried to start the truck last night and it would not idle on its own. So this morning I took the idle air control valve off and being cheap I cleaned it well with carb cleaner. Then I put it back on, the truck fired right up and idled great. If it starts to do it again I will just replace it but it is working for now. I wanna thank you very much it is greatly appreciated.
