New Exhaust Options (2005 5.4l)

Hey guys great forum here. Planning on installing some new exhaust here soon, and was just looking for some do's and don'ts. I am currently leaning toward Gibson. I have heard that Magnaflow can be a little loud in the cab. Also i am pretty much just interested in same exit area as stock setup.
Thanks for the help. ICEMANTR5

I had a Gibson with the stock exit and it worked well, was quiet and gave reasonable boost. It just didn't give me the sound I was looking at. I changed to Magnaflo dual rear exit and it is a little loud in the cabin (only when you are heavy on the pedal). If I could do it over again I would go with the Gibson dual rear exhaust

getting rid of the stock muffler helps but if you really want her to breath you should cut the exhaust before the stock collector and run tru-duals. I had a custom muffler shop pipe (2) 2.5" pipes into a single flowmaster 50 series big block muffler and dumped in front of the rear wheel. flowmaster and magnaflow both make dual in/dual out mufflers eliminating the need 4 a crossover. about $150 in labor, $130 for the muffler.

Magnaflow is loud in the cabin when you stomp on it. otherwise is quiet, you can hear it rumbling, but it isn't excessive

I just installed the Summit racing 3" cat back exhaust and am very happy. I have had Gibson, magnaflow,Flowmaster before and they make good systems also.

I have the Magnaflow on mine also, and the cab noise is not bad most of the time. If your jump on it, it gets loud, but thats why I put it on. It isn't as loud in the cab as a flowmaster is. If you tow, or haul any anount of weight you will hear noise in the cab, but I love how it sounds with a load on it!

also watch what you buy as far as the material it is made of. id go with stainless, that way you only have to do it once.

definitely picked up noticable gains in performance but no numbers to give you. system sounds great. cab noise isn't bad, a little droning (very little) that could be eliminated just by dumping behind the axle instead of in front. ford has got these things really restricted. I've got a volant cai with the ram air intake which I'm sure compliments the exhaust and changes the sound as well. hope this helps.

iceman,

You'll notice a small amount of cab noise with any aftermarket exhaust, but it's usually not too bad. Of course, the more aggressive you go, the more droning you'll get inside. But I second the stainless steel comment, you won't regret the extra $$ spent up front. I have a Bassani SS SISO system, exits in the same location as stock, sounds great, but the craftsmanship is excellent. Over one year later ( in New England no less) hasn't left one blemish on the system, still looks brand new and cleans up nicely from road grime.
