Hi I was driving down the freeway today about 85 mph and my check engine light came on I checked the codes and it read p1249. what does this mean ?
is it something I can fix myself I am mechanicly inclined I am just learning about diesels I always had gas trucks before.

 

DTC P1249 indicates that the PCM detected the turbo was overboosting.

Any mods on the truck?

 

yes I have a mko 4" exhaust 6637 filter and a hypertech programmer set on stage two I am waiting for funds to buy gages.

 

Be easy on it until you get the gauges, all that means is the PCM saw over 24psi boost nothing to really fix but the stock turbo gets real ineficient over 25psi. An Overboost Annihilator from ITP Diesel will eliminate that code, its common woth a programmer.

 

Is a programmer bad for the truck I got it for xmas but I dont want to ruin my truck.

 

Adding more fuel increases EGT's, hence the need for gauges to monitor them and boost levels. You just need to keep that in mind on acceleration and pulling until you get the gauges so you dont melt a piston. EGT's can get over 1200 pretty quik with performance tunes.

 

Thank you amiller93 I will keep an eye on it till I can get gauges. I wanted the power to help pull my 12000 pound trailer. so I will have to get those gauges quick.
