I don't think that's true on the Ford EFI distributors. They use the hall effect sensor to identify the #1 cylinder as well as send the PIP signal for the ignition. If the dizzy's not right you can have engine issues beacause the computer thinks #1 is someplace it's not.
It turns over without any obvious sounds, No clanking or any thing like that? what could be the trouble? I was told by a parts man that the PCM is bad,(powertrain control module) any one know how to check it to see if its working?
If you have replaced the ignition module and the ignition coil, the problem is probably the pickup coil inside the distributor, you have to remove the distributor and take it apart to replace the pickup coil.
The PCM is probably OK.
