Adding a second temperature guage

Hello all! I would like to add a second temperature guage to my cluster of aftermarket guages in order to get a better reading of actual engine operating temperatures. This has become of particular interest to me after installing electric fans to replace the fan clutch set up. Compounding it further is the fact that my factory guage is getting somewhat "flaky" and will suddenly drop to the bottom and then spring back up again. Yes, I have checked the entire length of the single wire as far as I could and I cleaned up the connector at the guage. I have ordered a new sender for the factory guage and hopefully this will fix my problem with the factory unit.

So, have any of you added an aftermarket temp. guage and left the factory sending unit in it's stock location on top of the manifold? Where did you install your second sending unit? Is there a plug or something already in the block/water jacket that can be removed to screw in the new sending unit - where? Did you drill and tap a new hoee in the block/water jacket - where?

I have thought about plumbing in a "spliter" off of the factory location and then realized that this probably couldn't work as the sender has to be submerged in the coolant. If I plumb in a "T" then neither sending unit would actually be "under water".

I really want to keep the factory guage up and running and at the same time I'd really like to know exactly how hot the motor is running with the electric fans. They are set at 210 deg yet even in our -30 temps they run just about all the time so I am wondering why.

Cheers!

Mike
