a4ld conversion
I got a 94 explorer. The A4ld tranny is out on it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if their is a better trans I can put back in replace of the a4ld.or if I should just have this one rebuilt I have heard nothing but bads things about them. Is their anything to that?

imo, They get the bad rap because people overheat them and do not change the fluid as often as they really should. I got 187K+ out of my A4LD in my AWD Aerostar by changing the fluid every 20-30k.

The A4LD isn't bad as long as you maintain it. If you are looking to go to a different transmission, Advanced Adapters makes an adapter to use a GM v6 700-R4 tranny with the explorers and retains the stock starter, driveshaft and t-case.
