need help please

i have a 99 expedition with a nav motor and it starts and runs fine, but sometimes it will stall and go dead intermittently. it happens when i let off the throttle at any speed, it happens when i come to a stop, if it starts while driving and i step into it a lil, the truck will make a weird backfiring sound from the engine compartment. after it dies it will sometimes restart immediately, sometimes it will take 2,3, 7 tries, then it fires right back up, put it in drive and release the brake, dead again. then it might not act up again for a half hour, or it may never start again like it did a while back leaving me stranded. i tried a new batt and fuel filter, i replaced the vacuum lines, still no luck, please help.

I had the same issue with my 2000, does your service engine soon light come on when you get it started? I had my garage replace the TPS, cleared out the error codes & now it runs great. Good luck

starts, then stalls

Probably a bad Idle Air Control Valve

i have replaced that before, it wouldnt run when the engine was cold, but after it warmed up it would run fine. it also wouldnt start at all, it will fire right up now but will sporadically die. good guess but i am thinking ignition/ignitor problem

anyone ever had ecu or ignitor probs with expeditions before?
