87-96 I beam swap to a 77

Okay I started a new thread so I wouldn't hi jack the mid 80's ti 70's swap thread. For anyone reading this that hasn't read that one, I posted in that thread about putting 80's-90's DJM lowering Dream Beams on my 77. I know that they are different and if it will work I will be getting the new balljoint style spindles, rotors, and calipers from a new truck in the junkyard. I have been researching this and looking at the diagrams of the two suspensions. I can see that the beams for the new trucks are different lengths but that is because of the pivot points. From the diagrams at autozone.com it appears that the pivot points of the new trucks are just riveted to the crossmember. So now I have the question is there much difference in the crossmembers between the two trucks. I don't want to put the new crossmember in my 77, I just want to cut the rivets and get the pivot point brackets off the new truck, then drill holes in my 77 crossmember and mount the brackets on there with some grade 8 bolts. Mudgepondexpress brought up a point about my 77 radius arms might not work but I can just swap them out too while I'm at it, mounting brackets and all. Our local U-Auto-Pull-It is has very reasonable prices. Sorry for being so long winded and thanks for any help with this.

If I were going to try this I'd get a friend with a '80-up truck and put the two side by side and take a lot of measurements. Looking at both together at the same time may reveal more problems or that it is possible. Good luck!

Thanks Mitch. Thats what I'm hoping I can do. My brother has an 84, but its at his ex-wife's house about 50 miles away. He is supposed to be bringing it to our mom and dad's house and I go over there at least two times a week to pick up my daughter after work so I can look at it there. If he ever gets it there! I went by two junkyards on my way to the landfill saturday but they both were closed, I was going to take some measurements there but couldn't. I'm not in a big huge rush to do this, I just would like too if I find out I can do it! Thanks again.
