electrical help

I could use a little help on a 79 F150. I am doing a complete restoration on a 79 short bed 4x4. The truck was originally a automatic but when I purchased it -was switched over to a 4 speed. At the time of purchase it was a basket case and I am not sure if it had been running after the tranny switch. When restoring this truck, I used a harness I had out of a 79 bronco automatic. Everything seemed to match up. When I went to start the truck- no juice to the starter. I had a feeling that the problem was the neutral/park safety switch. So I hooked a 79 C-6 with the harness still attached to the plug, put the tranny in park and the truck started- So here is my question: how do I eliminate this switch- common sense would say that I could just close the circut by cutting the plug and wiring it back together- can this be done? Has anyone had any experiece with this?

Replace the switch. Its a safety issue. At the very least, run it to a toggle in the cab.

I'd suggest finding a neutral/safety switch from a manual trans truck or Bronco, splice it in to your current harness, and mount it to your clutch pedal, or at least use an old pedal mounted brake light switch. You definitely don't want anyone unfamiliar with the truck, running over someone while they're bumping the starter over, while you're under the hood! As Matts72 suggested, a toggle switch would work for the reverse lights, you could even mount it on the shifter like a 2 speed rear.

go up into the harness there should be a 4 wire plug tat looks just like a trailer light flat 4 wire plug to the left of the steering column , this is the neutral safety switch plug on the manual transmission trucks the wires just go back to each other in a loop you can just cut them and connect them or you can use one set and put a hidden switch so if someone trys to swipe your truck they can't start it at the key switch
