Engine number
Where do I find the engine number on the Y-block in my 1956 F-100? I'm told that the engine is a 312, but I have no idea what year it is from. (One clue is that the fuel pump has a built-in filter canister.) Assuming I can find an engine number or engine code, any thoughts on where I can find a listing of engine numbers or codes used in all Ford products? Thanks for your help.

It should be back by and above the oil filter. There is a ford y-block site that breaks down the numbers and from what years they were manufactured.
