Bumper brackets

I've heard the term used in relation to body lifts, and I understand them to move the bumper down some to even out the look of the vehicle.

One question, and NO I don't intend on lifting my truck I was just curious about them.

By moving the bumper are you removing the protection they afford in the event of an accident? The bumpers are typically mounted directly to the frame so that the frame and the bumper absorb the impact of the collision. Do bumper brackets off-set the bumper so that it is no longer mounted to the frame directly?

To my knowedge they just lower the bumper. The end result is that they are still mounted to the frame. If done correctly and triangulated there is little safety risk (depending on the amount of lift to drop of course) but if done incorrectly and just attached then you're right they are more risky for other drivers. This falls under you being responsible for all that you modify on your truck. If an accident occurs, you can be found at fault for making the thing high enough to decapitate someone.

Niggling point, but I thought bumper relocation brackets raised the bumper so it maintained the same proximity to the body?
