Hello to everyone,
I just got a 66 f100 that has been maintained very well. In the process of finding out just how much is original...
http://home.earthlink.net/~jcpurut/index.htm has a graet VIN decoder but I have a question on the body type my plate reads 1M81 on the body type and the decoder page doesnt have it?
I havent decided yet if I want to stay original or put some muscle in it. The hood has been cut and scoop installed, the rear end may have been changed, and a floor shifter insalled ( backward H-pattern right now )- Other than this and the color I believe it is all original.
Thanks for any and all input, and I am glad I found yall.
Owen

Almost forgot, I also have an 86 E150 300 6-cyl auto ( C6? )
Any parts I should harvest before I put it down, motor runs but needs rebuild, and I just am not gonna drive it any more.

Your body code 1M81 is interesting. The 81 indicates a conventional F-series cab. The M indicates "Beige woven plastic and beige vinyl with foam seat cushion. The 1 is what Ford called a "deviation code" that indicated Grey Vinyl. From what I can figure out, the truck was planned to have the beige seat, but at the last minute for unknown reasons, grey vinyl was used instead. ( Page 5; Volume One of shop manual, page 16; general information; in the Ford Master Parts book)
As far as to remain original or modify, I lean strongly towards original looks with any upgrades being done so it looked as if the factory did them. But to each his own, enjoy your truck any way you want!
