2 battery setup....

Talking 2 battery setup....

i have a 1978 f-350 and i wanted to hook up another battery to the existing one, but i was wondering how to keet it 12 volt, is it neg to neg pos to pos or backwards anything helps thanks

You want it wired in Parallel--- POS to POS, NEG to NEG. This will give you increased available amps but keep the system 12 V. The other way is Series as you called it 'backwards' will give you the same amps (if you have the same amp rated batteries) but 24 V

so if i wire the batterys backwards and get 24 volt will that hurt anything, will i have to get a new alternator/ starter selonoid etc.? i just dont want to harmn anything by going 24 volt if im not prepared. thanks

Just wire it this way and you wont hurt anything, why do you need another battery anyway?

i got a bunch of work lights surrounding the whole truck, and everymorning my truck cranks till its dead then when i jump it it starts, its a ford but i love it, thanks for the help.

If you go 24v you will have to change every bulb in the truck, use voltage dropping resistors for you dash, radio, blower, etc., etc. You will need a 24v alternator if there is such a thing for your truck. Your starter will spin like mad but if you use it for more than about ten seconds it will probably burn up. A lot of headaches.

Best to put them in parallel and keep it 12v.

Use a battery isolator and wire it according to the instructions or you will ruin the batteries. Battery isolators are available at RV shops.
