I've been getting my lye from Lowe's (home improvement). It sells in a 2lb container, under the brand name "ROEBIC" Crystal Drain Opener. Look in the plumbing section. Cost: $ 7.66 ea. An no, you don't have to show a photo ID, give blood, or take a math skills test to get it.

Why are you guys still wanting to use lye? Just switch to potassium its alot better for the envirornment and less of a headache for you guys. Plus you can actuall try and recoup your methanol instead of looking at that hard crusty stuff.
