Knocking from somewhere.......

The last couple of times I have driven my truck, when I am first pulling away I notice a clonk coming from somewhere. It only does it when pulling away, and will only clonk once, maybe twice. It feel's like it's coming from somewhere underneath where my feet are, but I have no idea what it is, or even what is located around that area.

I have not yet had a chance to look underneath, but am changing my brakes tomorrow and so will take a look then. In the meantime can anyone give any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Also, for about the past week I have been driving around in a 95 Grand Cherokee that we own, its the 5.2 V8 and on take off leaves the truck standing. Should my truck be anywhere near as quick as the Grand? or short of modifying it is there not really much I can do (can't really modify too much as it's my daily driver and I don't want to sacrifice gas mileage). The truck is a 5.4 2000 Lariat.

Thanks.

Could be a little play between the driveshaft yoke splines and the tranny output shaft splines.
Also you may want to check the tranny mount and motor mounts just to rule them out.

Try towing 7000lbs with each vehicle and see which one has real power

Thanks for the reply LxMan1 I have managed to narrow down the knocking to the drivers seat. Which in a way is a bit of a relief, I had the engine off yesterday and was moving about in the seat and felt the same knocking, will check it out tonight to try and figure out what is causing the noise, and also maybe eat a few less pies!!!

I think I will also check out the mounts and splines that you suggested though just to be sure.
