Finding sprout

Can you help me identify spout? I'm all set to check my timing but nothing I disconnect changes the timing. I have not loosened the distributor yet and I'm reading 15 degrees BTC. Haynes says it is either two wire connector or four wire with a jumper bar that has to be removed. I have found...
1. Hood light
2. Two wire retangular connector under brake booster. Are the red thngs inside what needs to be removed? Which one?
3. Single wire sorta round connector on driver's fender under a zillion wire connector. One wire covering looks like tv cable.
4. A three wire grey connector near distributor between altenator and valve cover. Please not this one! I can barely see it much less disconnect it.
Again disconnecting 2 and 3 did not change anything. Could it be that I found and disconnected sprout and the timing reading stayed the same? Thanks.

The link below is the location of your spout connector. Click on the picture and you will get a larger picture that will be easier to read.

Ah....Ha!!!! Found it tucked down and behind the PCM plug wedged against the fender. I was looking for a connector with wires coming out both ends like Haynes shows. The sprout is more like a little grey retangular cork. Cold engine timing in now dead on 10 BTC I'll let it warm up and check again. I may try advancing to about 14 and seeing how it drives because I have about 8 degrees of timing chain slack. Yes, I plan to change the chain when I get time. Thanks 94 XLT White for picture. A picture is worth...you know. FTE friend's assistance is priceless.

i blindly bumped my timing by looking at a picture of how much the distributor was turned on one of the tech forums. it could be at 10 now it could be at 12309 i have no idea but it runs better. i dont think ive ever done anything the right way to any of my broncos. you should run some sea foam through the intake i just did that over night and it helped out tremendously.

It's an awsome book to have around. I bought this one on ebay for about $20.00

I have not tried 14 yet but changing from 10 to 12 degrees BTC made a huge difference on my 172k engine. I have only run a couple of errands but, observed 95% of the exhaust stink is gone, engine now sounds crisp and is VERY responsive. Hope the mpg has improved. For those thinking of checking your timing a bottle of Wite Out from the office is handy. I marked the pointer tip by holding the little brush with kitchen tongs. Then, I crawled underneath and put a "Y" on 10 BTC and an "!" at 12 btc. It makes the reading easy and very safe by eliminating the chance of getting your nose caught in the fan belt while trying to read the numbers.
