intake problem
i may be making this more difficult than it should be, but i was putting my edel intake on last night in place of my old S code. the block has a dowel pin up in the front corner on driver side. old intake has a provision for this, edel does not. i tried taking out the dowel with no success. or should i just drill a hole in the edel intake?

If you can pull the dowel - - do it. Otherwise you'll need to drill the intake. Earlier FE blocks all had dowels - - don't know why Ebrock chose not to accomodate them. The dowel helps locate the manifold.
The most important thing without a dowel will be distributor alignment - make sure you can get it all the way in and spinnable so you can adjust timing before you tighten the bolts. Sometimes you need a gentle tap with a mallet to move the intake around a hair before the gasket goo sets up. Then check for port alignment with a flashlight. Not much you're gonna do about it - but you will want to match them up the best you can with the dizzy in place - more taps.
Have all your tools ready because you only have a short time before any gasket goop start setting up - 15 minutes+/-. Once tightened and done you want to walk away for at least an hour or two to let things firm up, Recheck torque. Fill fluids. Drive...

Note about dizzy placement: Before I tightened my intake down, I put the dizzy in the hole and made sure it was centered before tightening down the intake (with the dizzy still in the hole).
How did I learn this? The HARD way!

I tried for hours to get that damn dowel out when putting on my RPM. I eventually took a cutting wheel to it and made it disappear. Probably not the best move but it hasn't been an issue. I didn't want to drill my new intake.
