E-10? What the heck are you doing driving one of those old things....

I don't know how much I can stand it, but I'm gonna have to. I didn't buy this truck to show off my godly physique.

I am strongly anti tree hugger

But I know environmentalists have a place in keeping industry and the rest of us aware of the impacts we can cause.

The current fuel prices a lotto do with oil being one of the perfect examples of a commodity traded resource with global supply and demand forces.

The crapper is, we in North America have plenty of raw resource, but can not easily get to it. The second problem is refining capacity and I am on the fence if it really is tree hugger fault or savy oil execs that could predict this... And a third problem is no damned transportation plan in the US that exploits rail for mass cargo transport and sprawling urban centers that waste time and fuel to just get across town.

Bring on the damned $4.899 a gallon 87 octane...sooner of later we tax payers will get off our collective asses and fire every politician in sight until we find a few that will actually figure out this mess. The do something rational..... hauling oil executives in front of congress is a waste of our time and suggesting a excess profits tax is ludicrous

I couldn't agree more, Fred!

I have less of an anti-tree-hugger stance, but certainly not the loony-bin variety

I hear ya 4WD, My truck hase become the single biggest expense in my life. I spend $500/MO payment, $500/MO fuel costs, $125/MO auto insurance, $200/YR exsice tax, and last month was a repair bill of $1000. For a total this year projected at $14,700 without any future repairs as gas staying at $3

I get so pissed about gas prices. It is a tough call what to do. If it gets political the oil companies will have manufactured shortages. If you do nothing that you get $4 then $5 then $6 per gallon prices. Once we pay it once the oil companies will keep the prices high and always pushing higher. There is a global strain on the oil supply. China is taking huge supplies and using it without any efficiency guidlines like earthy chunchies have mandated our society to do. I feel we have to be very wary of China when shortages begin to hurt them. Powerful country they have become. Is ANWAR the answer? Who knows. The Gulf of Mexico rigs are still hurting from Katrina and Rita. I sure hope no hurricanes hit the gulf. The $3.50/GL was blamed on Katrina and Rita last year. So what is the oil companies friggin excuse now? $3.50/GL without a hurricane. Can you imagine if we are at $3.50 and another major hurricane hits. I bet $5-7/GL is to be expected. Then after that we will hear the 4th quarter exxon mobils profits of 10,000,000,000. Then we will hear another retireing executive getting a $400,000,000 package.

I would love to vote people out of office. Problem is I don't know were to start.

In 9-18 months I will be getting a company truck with all the fuel on the companies tab. God I cant wait. I drive 20-25K miles per year and the fuel hurts alot.

Thumbs down

Big Orn- E-10 is what Casey's self service sells ---10% ethanol blend. usually 6 to 8 cents a gallon cheaper than the 100% regular dinosar fuel. Iowa has a 10 cent per gallon tax rebate of E-10 to the wholesaler. They usually pass most of that dime on to the pump price. I always burn the cheapest fuel in my SD V-10 pick-up. IT NEVER COMPLAINES.

Boxcar, I am at a loss as to why our government hasn't stepped in and taken over to stop this fraud layed on us consumers by big oil. They sure didn't hesitate to step into other worldly places to keep the flow of oil running, yet big oil in this country seemingly is untouchable. Congress recently has threatened to reinstigate the windfall profit tax upon the oil cos, and they just today announced if such actions are taken to increase taxes on oil, then the consumers will pay it, meaning even higher prices to us. Just a couple of years ago, a couple of tax breakes were passed into law giving big oil billions in savings....Did they pass a portion of that savings onto us? I wouldn't feel so bad if the oil cos spent these enormous obscene profits on new infrastructure, transportation systems, fueling stations, and refineries (yes, contrary to popular opinion, they can build new refineries, just wade thru the legal process. They have lawyers hired.) But when they just sit back and say tuff sheetsky american counsumers, you want gas you will pay and we will play games with press releases to make it sound like you are getting a real deal. The only thing they can't seem to manipulate are public disclosures and financial statements of corporate lagusee, and we all get to see the truth in what these high prices really do--create obscene profits. Corporate greed at it's best. Hooray for capitalism and so much for the free market system at work. I know if I were president I'd give Standard, Exxon/Mobile and the rest 2 weeks to lower all their prices by $1 per gallon or face a squad of Marines invading their board rooms and taking over the show. I'VE HAD IT UP TO HERE, IT IS SERIOUS. no one should be paying over $2.00 PER GALLON FOR GASOLINE IN AMERICA

To 4Wd, I read with great interest your take on the Marines invading boardrooms !!! A colorfull description, but it also denotes a strong sense of frustration, & don't get me wrong, I as your neighbour north of the border has to endure this situation as we Canucks are paying as of today (Apr 24-06) a whopping $1.20 per Litre, I'll let you do the math in U-S Gals. Here is my point (for what it's worth) being 50 y-o I distinctly remember in the mid sixties Uncle Sam mandated the U-S auto Manufacturers to include seat belts, then in the early seventies, ditto for anti-pollution systems, 5 Mph Bumpers, shoulder belts, then in the nineties Air Bags came trotting around the corner. All this to improve public safety, & support a greaner planet. I own a 1986 F-150 with a F-I 302, & recently found out (according to CNN) that the fuel consumption of the 2006 F-150 with comparable engine, has not made ANY significant fuel consumption improvements in the last 20 years !!! Coming from CNN, I feel that this is PROBABLY a reliable source, as they USUALLY do their homework. So here is the question I would love to ask G.W.Bush, why can't Uncle Sam step in & mandate Ford Gm & Chrysler to develop engines that will make a MANDATORY 30 miles to the Gallon !!! regardless of driving conditions. This would lessen the demand on fuel, help emissions (I think) & If the rule of supply & demand holds true (maybe) prices would decline !

I agree that if you play you pay. If that's what it takes to pull my 5th wheel then so be it. Of course no one likes to get ripped off or taken advantage of.

P.S. I like trees.

Well I've noted about the same thing. My son drove an '89 Buick LeSabre cross country last summer getting 27 mpg with GM's 3800 fi engine. Heard a Buick ad yesterday stating 30 mpg. Hell, my 4-cylinder '06 Escape only hopes to get 30 mpg. There really hasn't been a lot of mpg improvement in the last 20 years!

So what has happened between now and the beginning of the year? Bush is threatening to bomb Iran making an unstable part of the world even more unstable. Oil stock speculators go out and by all the oil they can get their hands on and the price shoots up.

Of course the oil companies are looking for any excuse to raise prices, as if they need an excuse. The price of oil goes up and the profits goes up a lot more. That equals greed. Then being the most profitable companies in the country they still get tax breaks and are subsidized from the American tax payer.

Then these greedy companies say there is not enough refiners. And why should they build any? Building anything cost money. The less refiners you have the more the gas is worth. Why would they build even one more refinery? That might increase the supply, can't have that.

In a sense we are trapped. Cars and trucks are our mass transit in this country. We NEED our cars and trucks. Everything in every store, including fuel, gets there by truck. We have torn up more railroad tracks in the last fifty years than we have laid down.

And Exxon/Mobil/Standard/Shell etc etc are also in the oil wholesale business. They act like their hands are tied because the price of a barrel of oil is $X. Bull. They also have a lot to say about how much a barrel of oil costs.

We need to get busy growing sugar cane for ethanol and rape seed for biodiesel. We have plenty of land and the farmers can do the job. It takes the will of the people and government support to get it done. It took Brazil twenty years to convert over, but they are now energy independent. America could do it a lot quicker if we could get the government to lead the way. Ethanol is already and industry here, we just need to relentlessly express a demand, campaign on the subject and it will happen. Otherwise, we will remain the victims of our enemies.

Yeah - I was ribbin' ya a little. My neighbor has an old E10 Jacobson (I think) tractor that looks like something out of a Star Wars movie. Don't see what it's good for except golf courses...and we live waaaaay back in the sticks.

I'm not sure when we'll get E10 here in Northeast Texas, but I'm sure when we do I'll give it a try.

I understand that over time things will cost more. Here is my issue. I leave for work, the corner gas station says $2.75. I come home, it says $2.80. On my way to work the next morning, it says $2.85. That's 10 cents in 24 hours!!!

That's bull manure...
