Cool Headlight Alignment

After putting on my HD headlights, I realized that the driver's side aims lower than the passenger. These are official Ford lights, not the inexpensive knockoffs from Ebay, they should fit perfectly. I managed to shim the lower bolt to bring the light up a tad, and even loosened the bolts on the passenger side and aimed it lower. At least I thought I did. Still off somewhat.

Is there any way to align these things properly? I want to put lowering shackles on the rear this spring, but my lights would most likley wind up blinding people at that point. Thanks.

PS: Put new pics in my gallery of the new setup.

In the owners manual it tells you how to do it. There shouldnt be a left to right adjustment just an up and down. There is a little distance measuring involved but besides that all you have to do is turn the screw on the back of the lamp under the hood.

I'll check it out tonight. Is this screw hard to get at? Driving with unlevel lights is starting to drive me insane, it's all I focus on at night. Not a good thing.

Thumbs up

After installing a 2.5" front lift on my 04 F-150 I had to lower my stock headlights a bit. There is an adjusting screw there just behind the lights under the hood. I just had them pointing at the back of my garage at night, and lowered them a bit and now no more folks flashing thier brights at me when mine were on dim.

You should be able to get them pretty close doing something like that.

Ideally if ya have a repair shop in your area that has a Headlight Alignment tool then that would be the best thing for you to do. I know all state Inspection certified Garages in PA are suposed to carry one by Law...I dont Know about other states though.

A guideline I use to use before my Bud got his own shop is...25' off a wall 4' high on Low beams. However I just found this article and it looks like it explains it to much more detail then I care to read Hope it helps...

our trucks can only be aligned horizontally, not vertically. Makes sense, but nope, Ford is weird
