HELP!!!!.......Please????

Hey everyone....first let me say that i just love this forum...seems that a lot of folks know their stuff on fords.... Especially on Expys.....Anyway, i have an '03 expedition and just love it to death.... but it has the stock 6-disc in-dash stereo and i like it but what can i do to inhance the sound quality without spending one arm and part of a leg. I know changing the stock speakers is a must, but where else can i go to make it better....? Can an amp be added..? Please help w/ any advise and pics if possible... thanks alot!

In the Expedition that I had I changed out all the factory speakers with Infinity Kappa components in the front doors and 6x8 in the rear doors. I also ripped out the factory sub and replaced it with a Sony Explode 8". It sounded great! I had the factory mach system. I just purchased an 04 F-150 Lariat Screw. I needed more bass so I added a Bazooka tube under the rear seat. All I can say is Awesome! It will shake your head! I plan on upgrading the factory speakers soon and might even run them through an amp, but right now I don't feel that it needs one. You can add an amp to any factory Head unit with a line level converter. From there it will let you plug in RCA cables and got to your amps. I installed one on the SCREW and it was simple. KC Auto is a tremendous asset to this forum. He gave me all the color codes for the factory stereo and install was a snap! Good luck in whatever you do. Just replacing your stock speakers will make a drastic improvement!

Thanks for the remarks the4by4freek.

ExpeditionNutt. Just today I had a guy contact me from these forums by phone. Thought it would have been you but he had the Nav radio.

I recommended to him two different options. If he was going to just upgrade just the speakers I told him about the DB Drive Speed Series SP70.2 5x7 coaxial speakers for the front and rear. View them installed HERE!

If he decides to jump up to a higher end we are going to go with DB Drive Platinum Series PL5.7 5x7 component/coaxials. These speakers are a component speaker but fit as a direct replacement to your speakers. They feature a crossover network that you mount in your door. They give you 3 levels of attenuation for your tweeter highs. On these speakers we would run a DB Drive Speed Series SP80.4 amplifier. This amp runs 80 watts per channel. View speakers installed HERE! and HERE and HERE! View the amplifer HERE!

He is debating on adding a subwoofer and I recommended either a Bazooka tube or maybe even a single 10 inch sub with an amp. If we go with the radio running the speakers we will run the subwoofer from a DB Drive Speed Series SPA600.1. This is a mono block amplfier that features a bass **** that you can mount in the front of the vehicle to turn the bass up and down.

If he decides that he wants to run the entire system off of one amplifier we will go with the DB Drive Speed Series SPA120.4. This amp is 120 watts per channel. In this application I use the front two channels to run the subwoofer bridged and use the rear channels to run all four speakers in the vehicle. The amp also features the bass **** to control your sub enclosure or tube. View the gallery featuring this amp and same application on a FTE members vehicle HERE!

These are just ideas featuring components and applications that I have actually done and heard. They can easily be replaced with components that you are comfortable with. Everyone has a certain product line they believe in.
