starting problems???????????????
I have a 76 f150 supercab, I just changed alt because truck died while driving home with headlights on.(they dimmed down to a glow). The alt seems to have fixed this problem. I do not know for sure yet because I haven't driven with lights on just tested it to see if it would die. When I try to start it I have toi jump it. battery read 11.8 volts and the same at idle or higher rpms. I did not change volt reg. the solenoid just clicks when trying to start without cables.

The 11.8 volts is a discharged battery, that is why the clicking.
The most common cause of this is a voltage regulator with a bad ground in older trucks.
