I have a 2003 F250 with 56K miles. I have a superchips programmer and a Banks 6 Gun as well as a Banks oversized exhaust> I have never had any problems with this truck until recently. It began cutting off on me occasionally, and recently it began changing gears very hard between 2nd and third. (it's an automatic). I did a diagnostics test today and received 4 error messages 2 are about the ICP basically stating that it is uncontrollable. One stated a cam shaft sensor error message and one said 2nd gear ratio error. Also since this has begun my banks six gun has stopped reading properly and now only reads 1-5 in single digits. I am looking for any and all help. I am a carpenter for a living but don't no much about mechanics. Can somone please point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your help.
Sounds like you need to replace your CPS (Cam Position Sensor). I would replace it first, it should take care of your other problems. DON'T let a shop do it! they'll rip you off.....
You can search this forum for info on replacing the "CPS", I haven't had to change mine......YET! but, I hear it's pretty easy
ICP error codes are common on trucks with a tuner or chip. If you know what the codes are, post them and someone will be able to tell you for sure. But, I wouldn't worry too much about the IPC codes.
It sounds like you have a CPS going out. Like posted above, run a search on it. It is quite easy to do, and will probably take you about 20-30 minutes the first time you do it.
As far as the 6-Gun reading funny, that's happened to several people, including me. I ended up having to send mine back to Banks and they replaced it with a completely new one, all under warranty. Give them a call tomorrow to see what they say.
I would take the superchips out first. I had one in my 98 Explorer Sport and did something like that. I pulled it out and it ran great. Admin note: see our guidelines about language
I had the same 2nd gear ratio error on my truck also. I got it after I installed the DP tuner chip and put good size load on the truck. Whenever I was towing we couln't get the truck over 55mph and it was running about 2500rpm. After we unloaded it ran fine but I don't know how to fix the problem.
