Well said, the 7.3 will outlast any of those diesels, with less power, who gives a crap. That thing can pull some *****.How much torque and hp do you really need for work?I guess if you wanna race it thats a whole other story

The 7.3L in it's last year had much more torque than the Cummins. It was 525 ft/lbs to 505 ft/lbs on a H.O. Cummins engine. 460 ft/lbs normally. That was on a 2002. The 7.3L had it beat easily. This was before the redesign, and the new H.O. engines came out. The Duramax came out for 2001...and then Ford responded with the 6.0L. Nothing even compared up until the LBZ...and now we will se everybody striding to catch up, and overcome.

Of course the cummins had more torque and I'm guessing chevy's HP numbers were higher, but who cares? The 7.3 sure proved itself worthy!

I say we quit getting excited about high horsepower and torque numbers. Sure its all fun, but if you buy a diesel truck to race it, then you don't need one. Thats why Honda and Mazda sell those upholstered rollerskates! Last time I checked... Sensible people bought trucks to put to work, with the occassional play.
I agree, thing is I dont want to race it but when I'm on the onramp to the highway and I step into it I want the mother to take off, my stock 7.3 is a little bit of a dog in that situation. I want insane amounts of power and torque and the reliability of the 7.3L. I know I'm asking alot but these trucks arent cheap either, who says you cant have it all ??

Do the Duramax or Cummins engines currently available meet 2007 emissions? The tougher emissions standards for 2007 might cause a decrease in everybody's hp and torque. It is a lot easier to meet standards if you design your engine to run at less than its full potential.

I agree that the actual #'s don't matter as long as you can get work from your work truck (but more is better!).

i dont see why they didnt put the torq shift on the 7.3 and bump up the compression a bit and put different turbo on..... a bigger motor will typically have the most potential if its built right, the 7.3 was bullet proof reliable and shouldve just ben expanded on.. and the 6.0 shouldve hit the f-150 line.... my guess on the 6.4... is that it will just peak the LBZ and the cummins its let likely they would bump it up to 400hp because then they would have to top that in years to come, if they match or beat the competitors by a smaller # they have more reliability and they can try to pull more MPG out of it.

I am still to believe that Ford is going to rock the diesel community with this motor with over 400 hp and 700 ft. lbs. as I always say Ford makes her, but Navistar shakes and makes her!
