Mounting Options for CB/Scanner

I'm purchasing a scanner for my truck, 99 F150, and don't have a good place to mount it. I have the split bench with the fold down console/middle seat. I was considering just mounting on the dash next to the driver's A-pillar, but a) I'm worried about it be too visable and possible theft, b) blocking vision and c) not having a good place for an external speaker.

Does anyone have any good options for mounting it?

I would consider building a center console to sit on the floor, but it would have to be fairly skinny as I have manual 4x4, no Expy console for me. If I go that route any suggestions for materials or design?

Thanks for the info!

Why don't you just attach it to the bottom of the dash either below the steering wheel or behind the stick? In the glove compartment, or in the dash if you are comfortable hacking it up to make it fit.
