starting- ignition issues

2001 F-250 V10. i bought this truck used 3 months ago so i am not to familuar with it. problems started 2 months ago durring a snow storm. sometimes, well most of the time, the truck will not start when you turn the key. i have to jump the seloniod with a screw driver to get the engine to start. at first i thought it was a bad ground on the seloniod so i took it off cleaned it and reinstalled it. still kept happening so i replaced the seloniod. still keeps happening.

i think i have narrowed it down but really have no idea
-the ground is still bad, i should make a new ground for it
-something in the ignition
-or its the factory alarm system thats screwing with me

the truck has an alarm system, its ford, but i have no manual for it and have no idea how it works. is it that the alarm system is disabling the ignition?
could it be something bad in the ignition? if so how diffucult is that to replace? anyone ever have issues like this before?

Could be the ignition sw itself could be the safety sw for the start in park or neutral.
I would think you need to get a test light and a cd to look at electrical diagrams so you don't continue to buy parts. Or have a knowledgable person check it for you.
As far as the alarm I don't have a clue.

What do you mean "it will not start" ??? Will it crank and just not fire, or does it not even crank?

Major question, need an answer to give you more info

when i turn the key to 'start' the starter does not crank. when i jump the seloniod with the screw driver it starts fine.

I had a dodge that had the same problem. Figured out that I had ran over some brush and it popped off the starter safety plug on the tranny. It's the thing that ensures that the starter will only engage in park or neutral.
I'm not sure how it's set up on the Ford but might be worth a look-see. Look around the tranny and see if there is a detached wire.

Someone else will chime in and say if there is such a thing on there or not.

Definitely sounds like safety-interlock. I have no idea if the tranny has the sensor or not, though

The sd has a trans sw on the transmission. Has a bunch of wires and its connected to the cable.. Only start in neutral or park. Try starting in neutral. And wiggling the lever.
