E4OD Problem

I have a 92 f150 4x4 with a rebuilt e4od transmission from ford, which had a connector wiring change on installation. Recently while pulling a trailer transmission fluid leaked from the torque converter area, after adding fluid the transmission would not engage in any gear without first revving the engine and letting it return to idle, once engaged it will cycle through the other gears ok. The leak appears to have stopped. I am not a transmission expert and need guidance how to proceed in diagnosing the problem.

Thanks,

Lamar

When you say the "torue converter area" do you mean under the plate at the front of the transmission? That is potentially a Front Pump problem...although that shouldn't cause the other problems, so I would wait for a second opinion to be sure.

How much fluid leaked out, and how much did you put back in? Bad shifting can be caused by overfilling, sometimes, when the fluid vapor locks due to aeration.

Is the transmission factory installed or done at home?

The rebuilt was installed at home, I had put about 60,000 miles on it before this occured. The fluid came from the access area for draining the torque converter, it took about 4 quarts to bring it back to normal. The engine temp was normal but I suspect the transmission temp was not at the time this occurred.
